Spanish Literacy/GED
Preparation:
It has long-been understood within CIELO Project that improved literacy in
Spanish facilitates the learning of English. CIELO Project began its Spanish
Literacy/GED Preparation program with this in mind. The goals of this program
are to provide Latinos with basic reading and writing skills, beginning with
Spanish literacy, and to help them successfully complete their high school GED
exams. This program has been developed in partnership with the Mexican
Consulate's Office, which provides Certificates of Completion in Spanish
Literacy to students successfully completing the program at the elementary and
middle school levels. A GED Certificate from the State of Washington is issued
to students successfully passing the GED examinations.
All program instructors have at least a Master's degree, in addition to
specialized training in adult education. Further, the Program Director has
many years of experience in teaching literacy to adult learners in Mexico
prior to establishing this program.
